Chicago has house, Detroit has techno, Berlin has minimal and London has a long history of rave culture. In Melbourne the dance music producers and DJs are chameleons who weave a multitude of TransAtlantic sounds with an irreverence peculiar to them. Tornado Wallace is one of these pioneering producer/DJs but even within his hometown he’s considered an anomaly. Since starting DJing as an 18yearsold he has established himself as a gotoDJ and has become a regular on Melbourne’s circuit. He now has a residency at Melbourne’s renowned Revolver Upstairs, and coruns the monthly Animals Dancing and C Grade parties at the Mercat Basement, where his eighthour sets have inspired a neo underground scene sweeping through his hometown. The elusive and enigmatic DJ/producer is now taking on the world with his hybrid of house, techno and disco, releasing of a succession of stand out EPs on labels such as E.S.P. Institute, Beats in Space, Delusions Of Grandeur and Instruments Of Rapture all of which received heavy play support from contemporaries such as Andrew Weatherall, Eric Duncan and Tim Sweeney. He has recently been touring Europe and North America where he has played to frenzied crowds in the likes of Ibiza, London, Berlin, LA and New York. May 30 at UNICE will be his Japan debut.
